Good morning, and welcome to the Saints Insider newsletter for October 18. The Saints didn't exactly have a whole lot of time to get over their fourth quarter collapse against the Cincinnati Bengals. For some, like Cam Jordan, that's a good thing. In about three days' time, the Saints will take the show on the road and face the Arizona Cardinals. Short weeks are never fun in the NFL — not for the coaches who have to put the game plans together, and certainly not for the players who have a shortened amount of time to get their body ready. But this is a crucial juncture of the season, and the Saints need to find a way to figure things out in a quick window. And it looks like they're going to have to figure all that out without some of their best players (again). Our columnist Jeff Duncan heard from a league source that several of the Saints' big-time playmakers aren't going to be on the field Thursday night. The injuries are the topic du jour, and not just for the Saints. Both Arizona and New Orleans have walking M.A.S.H. units on their hands. Though neither team practiced Monday, they estimated to have 14 players on their injury report. Ouch. What about Jameis Winston? Well, the Saints are waiting for him to be "100 % healthy" before they make a call at quarterback. Saints coach Dennis Allen continues to be non-committal when asked who his signal caller will be moving forward. While the Saints will be without some big-time names, the Cardinals are getting one back. Pro Bowl receiver DeAndre Hopkins is making his season debut after serving a six-game suspension to start the season. |
