Wear a mask!

I hope everyone has been well the past few weeks while I’ve been away. I 10/10 would recommend taking a step back and turning off your brain for a bit if you can. I played with my kids—and enjoyed it! I slept! I read! It was magical.
And now I’m back to reality and, probably like many of you, am constantly thinking and fretting about the upcoming school year and what it could look like — and the ongoing effect all of this has on our kids. While I’m only worried about my children, it’s a whole other ballgame if you’re a teacher and a parent. Last week, we asked teachers in the HuffPost Parenting Facebook community (Not a member? Join us!) to share their thoughts on what the decision to go back to the classroom has been like for them. These educators are worried not only about their own families, but the kids they adore teaching.
School will start soon. I encourage you to read their words. |

If all of us here want to raise the kind of people we’d like to know, it starts at home. Our kids may be losing out on a lot right now, but the silver lining is that you can use these unprecedented times to help teach your child emotional intelligence, or “EQ.” I loved these two pieces from reporters Catherine Pearson and Kelsey Borresen that show you how to get started. Read them here. |
