Despite having never experienced allergies while growing up, I found myself ravaged by this seasonal affliction as soon as I moved from the West Coast to the East one. Now, I spend early spring and fall combating itchy, watery eyes, sore throats and congested sinuses — much to the chagrin of anyone who has to endure my near constant whinging. I am simply not equipped to deal with them. If you’re looking for a book to celebrate Earth Day or educate your teen on climate change, HuffPost Readable’s April book club pick, “Parable of the Sower '' by Octavia E. Butler, may be a good place to start. This dystopian novel tells of a world destroyed by environmental strife and the will of one young girl to rebuild a new one in its place.
