Are you feeling stimulated?

The Senate unanimously passed the $2 trillion stimulus after a bipartisan deal. The package includes direct payments to taxpayers and billions for businesses. The House is aiming to pass the measure on Friday [New York Times].

In case you're curious, here's what's in the bill [CNN].

This is a handy calculator to help you estimate how big of a direct payment you'll get from the government. 80 percent of Americans will get some sort of cash payment [Washington Post].


Joblessness spikes

Millions of Americans may have lost their jobs last week [New York Times].

White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow says jobless claims will show a big increase when they're released Thursday morning [Bloomberg].

California saw 1 million unemployment claims in less than two weeks [Los Angeles Times].


Virus updates

The number of coronavirus deaths in the U.S. topped 1,000 [Fox News].

An epidemiologist is predicting the number of deaths from coronavirus in the U.S. could hit a peak in three weeks [CNN].

The White House completely ignored the detailed pandemic response playbook that was developed by the National Security Council [Politico].

The anti-malarial drug chloroquine is no better at treating coronavirus than regular treatments. President Donald Trump has touted the medicine as a breakthrough treatment for the virus, but studies show that's not accurate [Bloomberg].

The U.S. is insisting that the United Nations call out the Chinese origins of the virus, which is blocking a possible response to the pandemic [NBC News].

United Airlines is cutting its domestic flights by 52 percent. That's up from a projected 45 percent cut [TechCrunch].
