voornaam – the stars have aligned with GBAC STAR Service and ISSA’s CIMS programs. Problem solved | In response to industry demand and marketplace confusion, ISSA has merged its two programs into one comprehensive certification program. The History | Since late 2020, ISSA has offered two separate certification/accreditation programs for building service contractors (BSCs) and cleaning service providers: The ISSA Cleaning Industry Management Standard (CIMS) certification and the GBAC STAR Service accreditation. CIMS is a consensus-based management standard that outlines the primary characteristics of a successful, quality cleaning organization. CIMS is a two-year certification. GBAC STAR Service is an accreditation program that provides third-party validation of a building service contractor’s cleaning, disinfection, and infection prevention protocols and procedures. GBAC STAR Service is an annual accreditation. The Future | The new program is based on the successful CIMS criteria, but with a renewed emphasis on protecting building occupants’ safety and health through GBAC’s proprietary cleaning, disinfection, and infection prevention protocols. No other organization is positioned to offer this best-in-class offering. What this means for the industry • | Enhance - the CIMS standard with the critical elements from the GBAC Star accreditation program. | | • | Evolve - First major update of components for the CIMS standard since it’s evolution of the GB elements to align with LEED. | | • | Empower - GBAC’s expertise in infection prevention best practices will provide cleaning service providers with the ability to support their customers and internal stakeholders create a safer and healthier environment. |
