Their dad — a folk music buff — gave Shawn the chording and picking basics, and she fleshed out her chops with Mel Bay books. Tonic Sol-Fa is an a cappella quartet hailing from Minnesota. They have been riding on a wave of successful appearances across the U.S. since they formed at St. John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota, in the mid-1990s. About the name, Tonic Sol-Fa, bassist Jared Dove jokes that “it can only be blamed on heavy drinking.” Among their many recordings is 2020’s four-disc set Playlist.
