If the digital age has taught me anything, it’s that content doesn’t have to be long to make an impact. My favorite story from this past year was the perfect reminder — in more ways than one.
When I first came across Miriam Anzovin’s TikTok, she had only a few hundred followers. But the videos she posted were unlike any Torah study I’d seen before. Anzovin was bringing Daf Yomi (the page-a-day Talmud study cycle with tens of thousands of participants worldwide) to a Gen-Z audience, distilling the daily dose to a saucy, bite-sized takeaway. Intrigued, I called her up.
The Forward’s early 2022 profile of Anzovin was her first feature in any publication. Since then, she’s become something of a Jewish celebrity: her videos have more than one million views, she has been profiled in Jewish outlets across the web, and she recently became Moishe House’s first Artist in Residence.
I’m glad and proud that the Forward was the first to introduce her to Jewish readers — and I’m still a loyal viewer of her daily takes on Talmud (though she’s expanded her purview to Jewish holidays and the weekly Torah portion, too).
No other publication covers digital innovation in Jewish culture like the Forward. This year, support the Jewish media coverage you can’t get anywhere else — online or off.
