The past two years have dealt a punishing blow to Louisiana’s homeowners insurance market, much like the wave of hurricanes that rocked the Gulf Coast more than a decade ago. In 2020 and 2021, hurricanes Laura, Delta, Zeta and Ida spawned hundreds of thousands of claims. Bruised by steep losses, some companies in the already frail insurance market are now in retreat. LAME DUCK: Republican legislators have been challenging Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards for six years now, although the Democratic chief executive usually has triumphed. But Wednesday's votes to override his veto of the Legislature's map of congressional districts appears to have weakened Edwards' ability to steer his agenda for the rest of the 2022 legislative session - and signaled he's a lame duck for the remainder of his second term.
