The tale of Tommy White's shoulder

Typically, the most talked about shoulder in Baton Rouge belongs to an LSU quarterback.

Not these days.

That "honor" belongs to LSU third baseman Tommy White and the right shoulder he jammed diving back into first base Friday after his first base hit in his first at bat as a Tiger against Western Michigan.

White is critical to LSU's offensive success this year after hitting 27 home runs as a freshman at NC State then transferring to LSU. Coach Jay Johnson gave something of an update about White's status Monday, but to find out what he said you will have to click on the link.

You see how this works? We appreciate you playing along.

White or no White, LSU's weekend three-game sweep of WMU kept the Tigers at No. 1 going into Tuesday's game against 3-0 Southern.

One of the big reasons the Tigers got off to such a good start was the pitching of Friday starter Paul Skenes. Monday he was named SEC pitcher of the week, an honor we're willing to bet won't be his last this season.

Skenes is not only expected to be a great pitcher for the Tigers, if Johnson let him hit he would probably display double-digit home run power. The coach explained why he didn't let Skenes hit this weekend, though you can probably guess why.

The LSU women's basketball team stayed at No. 5 in this week's AP poll, after the Tigers' 90-79 win Sunday at Florida. Though it didn't do much to impress the polsters, the win did much to shine a spotlight on LSU's depth as the Tigers head into another road game Thursday at Vanderbilt. LSU wraps up its home schedule Sunday against Mississippi State, but expect the Tigers to be hosting NCAA Tournament first- and second-round games in the PMAC come March.

Finally, the 10-0 LSU softball team is headed north this week to play Louisiana Tech and ULM, and we have all the particulars.

Well, that was a surprisingly long list. Thanks for reading, for subscribing, and being the awe-inspiring individual you are. You are the Paul Skenes fastball to our catcher's mitt.

Until next time,

Scott Rabalais
