An absurd summer carnival shakes up Shakespeare's Globe 

Outrageous puppets, thought-provoking comedy and hijinks galore — welcome to the absurd world of The Taming of the Shrew at Shakespeare's Globe.

This darkly funny new take on Shakespeare's cutting exploration of gender expectations comes to the iconic open-air theatre next week. The play revolves around one suitor's attempt to transform the fiercely independent Katherina into an obedient wife — an endeavour that involves outlandish levels of manipulation .

A Terrific Team

This brand new production is directed by Jude Christian, who won acclaim for her take on Titus Andronicus at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse (The Guardian called it "brilliantly provocative" in its four-star review). As for the cast? Thalissa Teixeira plays our titular "shrew" -- her recent credits include Brutus in the RSC's Julius Caesar.

As you probably know, Shakespeare's Globe is a reconstruction of the playhouse for which the Bard penned his plays. Just like the original theatre, it includes a pit below the stage where spectators can watch the action unfold for less. These 'groundling' tickets start at just £5 a pop -- get the best value tickets for the following week every Friday from 11am.
