Good morning Valued Subscriber,
The last days of an election always seem to throw up a surprise and late yesterday Elizabeth Lee certainly delivered. ANU vice-chancellor Professor Genevieve Bell is "the right person to lead" the university through its financial crisis, chancellor Julie Bishop says. Sarah Lansdown reports Ms Bishop has backed Professor Bell's decision to take a pay cut on her $1.1 million salary as "a personal sacrifice". The National Gallery has revealed the winning designs for its $60 million upgrade of its gardens. And in sport, the Canberra Capitals are fired up and on track to sell out the AIS Arena for their season opener, Caden Helmers reports.
