The 100 best books of this century

This summer, the New York Times has embarked on one of those bookish list-building projects I simply cannot resist.

They’ve asked 503 poets, book critics, nonfiction writers and novelists to submit 10 books they think soar above the rest from this century.

And then they asked some of those literary luminaries to unveil their ballots.

And readers, what a delight to see the choices of people like Scott Turow, Annette Gordon-Reed, Marlon James, Stephen King, Alma Katsu and more!

So, I’m here to say that if King, Katsu, James and others like me treasure a particular book, you might too!

If you’ve never read Donna Tartt’s “The Goldfinch,” Stephen King thinks you ought to put it on your summer list. I do too!

If you never had the pleasure of plunging into Lauren Groff’s “The Matrix,” Jessamine Chan and I ask “What are you waiting for?”

If you’ve never read “The Overstory” by Richard Powers, my gosh, people! Stephen Carter and I want to know what you’re waiting for!

These books are the very essence of reading adventurously. Now, my friends, get going!
