Books and writers I think you'll love

Have I blown up your summer reading list? Great!  Mission accomplished!

Here are three more books America’s most imaginative writers told the New York Times they thought were the best of the 21st century. I humbly add my “Get going and read these books! What are you waiting for?” exhortation.

Megan Abbott put the astonishing Kate Atkinson’s “Life After Life” on her top ten of the century. Bravo! I can remember exactly where I was and how I felt when I read this novel.

Ann Napolitano put “Homegoing” by Yaa Gyasi on her list. I promise you that book will sweep you to a time and place you’ve never been. It’s extraordinary.

And Sarah Jessica Parker, who now has her own book imprint, put Tayari Jones’ “An American Marriage” on her top ten. I’ve recommended this novel more than a dozen times. It’s so good!

Ask a Bookseller: ‘Bitch: On the Female of the Species’ by Lucy Cooke

Zoologist Lucy Cooke takes a close look at the often-overlooked female half of the animal kingdom and the active role they take within evolutionary biology in her latest.

This recommendation comes from Carolyn Chin of Books on First in Dixon, Ill., who she says she found the nonfiction book “totally fascinating.”
