Hello John,

How are you doing this week?

Here's a snapshot of my day: We're coming off a Halloween sugar buzz (okay, it's still going), that extra luxurious hour of sleep made a big difference in my Monday vibe, and after sending you this email I'm off to drop off my ballot at the polls!

Most exciting: early copies of the new TinkerLab Art Starts book have arrived! This book has been in the works for years, and it's pure joy to see it in this form. Join me for this goofy unboxing (pretty sure this is my first ever unboxing video).

  1. Unboxing the TinkerLab Art Starts Book. I'm excited to share that the new TinkerLab Art Starts book is available for pre-sale! It looks amazing. If you want to follow the book launch journey, check out my unboxing video here. It's been a while since I've posted to my YouTube channel, and I'd also like to invite you to subscribe as I have more videos planned for you.
  2. November Sketchbook Challenge. Each month we host an art challenge, and you're invited. Get your creative juices flowing by interpreting a word of the day in paint, collage, markers, words, clay, etc.Print out the prompt list here. Follow along on Instagram here.
  3. Creative Adventures in Cursive - under $8! Every now and then I spot my books on sale and want to pass the savings on to you. Find it here on Amazon.
  4. Play-Doh for Grown ups. I thought this was a parody, and then realized the play-doh company is in on the joke. 🙀 Find play-doh in these scents: overpriced latte, moms jeans, grill king, dad sneakers, spa day, and lord of the lawn. An awesome stocking stuffer for the grown-ups on your list.
  5. Make a Vote Flexigon. If you're looking for democracy-related crafts to try today and tomorrow, my friend Ana at Babble Dabble Do made this incredible "Vote" template for little engineers. You just need a printer and some markers.
  6. STEM gift guide. My friend Anne at Left Brain Craft Brain has done the research to bring you a comprehensive gift guide of STEM and STEAM games, books, and toys.
  7. Elections with Kids. NPR put together this helpful piece on How to talk to your kids about the election.
  8. Well-known phrases people use incorrectly. We're fans of words in my house and I have to admit I've gotten a few of these wrong.
  9. NaNoWriMo. November means it's NaNoWriMo - National Novel Writing Month, and it's a great time to get kids involved in the process of writing a story. It's free ad you can sign up here. By the way, this is for kids and adults, in case you have a novel you've been dying to crank out. Now is the time!
  10. Boost Creativity by playing Minecraft. Do you have Minecrafters in your home? This paper from the Iowa's Creativity Research Journal explains the findings.

Thanks for reading! If you enjoy my newsletters, feel free to pass this along to a friend.
