Happy Wednesday!
What a fun and crazy week it's been so far. We hosted a pumpkin carving event for our dorm residents last night, and over 100 pumpkins were carved for our neighborhood lantern festival! The festival is tonight at Stanford's Gerhard Quad, 7-9 pm. Stop by and say hello if you're in the area :) I'd love to see you.
I have a fun giveaway for this generous pack of STEAM-focussed books (my cursive book included!), so be sure to drop your name in the hat. Details below. Related, my cursive book is selling on Amazon for under $5 right now. More about that below, too!
- Creative Adventures in Cursive - under $5! I want to send you a FREE companion PDF workbook. My cursive craft book is on a crazy Amazon sale right now, and it likely won't last. If you buy a copy and leave a review, message me back with a copy of your receipt and review by Friday, November 8, and I'll email you a free PDF companion cursive workbook :)
- Typehunting! If you like vintage things, especially fonts, this website is soooo fun to peruse. It's a virutal museum of old fonts, and many will take you back to the olden days. Fun to share with kids!
- Make your own Light Table. With the weather getting cooler, it's helpful to bring some of the creative energy indoors. You can make this easy light table with a plastic tub and holiday lights (easy to find this time of year).
- Spaghetti Marshmallow Challenge. This is one of our most popular posts, and it's a fun and engaging engineering challenge that you can do with some basic kitchen supplies. I first tried this when my kids were ages 4 and 6, so it's great for littles, older kids, or a family game night.
- A case for Problem-based Learning. This article shares research that shows how immersive, project-based learning techniques go further toward helping kids learn. Amen!
- Babies can count. Read about how babies may understand counting before they fully understand numbers.
- Book Pack Giveaway! Quarto, the publisher of my book, Creative Adventures in Cursive, is giving away a pack of STEAM-related books to one lucky TinkerLab reader. Enter to win by 10 am PT on November 4.
- Start your own kids' art classes. My friend, Jean, at The Artful Parent, interviewed two other friends about their successful kids art classes. If you're thinking about starting a kids' art class or business, read on to hear their tips.
Thanks for reading! If you enjoy the newsletter, feel free to forward it to a friend.
