| A reliable pitch shot starts with a solid setup. Take a slightly narrow stance, with your body parallel to the target line and the ball in line with your sternum. Open the clubface slightly to be sure you’re utilizing the bounce on the bottom of the club, which helps the clubhead glide through the grass and not dig. With your weight forward, swing the club back halfway, keeping your wrists soft so the shaft gets vertical on the backswing. The governor for distance is the speed that you turn your chest and swing your arms. You’ll learn to vary distance with a faster or slower chest speed. Make sure you let the bounce strike the ground as the bounce will glide through the turf for about three to six inches—the ball just has to be somewhere in that space. Give it a try. | |
