The pandemic has given employees time to rethink their careers, and leaders should likewise rethink how they can engage and support employees, even if that means encouraging some of them to depart, says Tania Luna, co-founder of management training company LifeLabs Learning. Leaders who are inconsistent, disrespectful or spring surprises on employees will be unable to build trust, writes Marlene Chism. "When the rules constantly change, or when there's a different standard for different people, employees lose faith in the integrity of their leader," Chism writes.
When hiring salespeople, place a premium on the ability to recall details and listen properly during a conversation, advises sales consultant Colleen Francis.
