Take a family trip to York with LNER

Looking for a family-friendly getaway, but can't face a long drive, pitstops at motorway service stations, or hours stuck in traffic? You can get to the beautiful city of York in under two hours from central London, when you travel by train with LNER.

Not only is the journey super-speedy — from 1 hour 49 minutes from King's Cross direct to York, at speeds of 125mph — it's comfortable too. LNER's Azuma trains are kitted out with free wi-fi and plug sockets at every seat, so that's everyone's entertainment covered. Hot and cold food and drinks are available from the Let's Eat Cafe Bar, delivered right to your seat. And before you board the train, you can make use of the new family lounge at King's Cross station, with space for children to play (and parents to relax).

Step off the train at York station, and the city centre is a five-minute stroll away — no faffing around trying to find a parking space. Tap the blue button to book your hassle-free LNER tickets now — an LNER Family Return ticket for up to four children and two adults costs just £99. And when you do arrive... well, read on to find out about the family-friendly adventures awaiting you.

National Railway Museum

We're huge fans of York's National Railway Museum, a fascinating, free attraction just a couple of minutes walk from York station. Voted the number one thing do to in York on TripAdvisor, it covers 200 years of railway history, with an extensive collection that includes the Mallard, the world's fastest steam locomotive. Choo choo!

The Vikings Are Coming!

JORVIK Viking Centre is one of York's best-loved attractions year-round, but this month is even more of a treat for history fans, as JORVIK Viking Festival is in town (11-19 February). Vikings pitch their tents in the city centre for days of battle reenactments, craft workshops and other family-friendly activities.

See York From The Water

Hop on board a City Cruises York boat, and see the city from the River Ouse. You can sit either on the open top deck, or the enclosed saloon — either way, you'll learn plenty about York's history on your 45-minute trip, including how the Ouse helped make York into a hub of all things chocolate.

A Break On A Budget

With all this plus York Minster, a chocolate museum, and plenty else to see and do, York is the obvious choice for a family getaway. It doesn't have to be expensive either — LNER offers a Family Return ticket for up to four children and two adults between London and York for £99. You need to book at least a week in advance, and these tickets are limited so get booking. Go, go, go!
