Jail indictment: Demoted Cuyahoga County Jail Warden Eric Ivey was indicted Thursday, accused of lying to investigators and ordering corrections officers to turn off their body cameras during an investigation into the death of an inmate, cleveland.com’s Adam Ferrise reports. Ivey was singled out in the damning November U.S. Marshals Service report as someone who facilitated civil rights violations of inmates at the jail where eight inmates died in 2018. State of Cuyahoga: Cuyahoga County Executive Armond Budish used his 2019 State of the County address to talk about planting trees, synchronizing traffic lights and creating a “power island.” Noticeably absent from his 45-minute speech at the Huntington Convention Center Cleveland was any mention of the ongoing corruption investigation of county government. Mueller report: The word “Cleveland” shows up eight times in the 448-page Mueller report released Thursday. “Convention” shows up about 44 times and “Ohio” is in there twice, cleveland.com’s Eric Heisig reports. Robert Mueller’s report shows he scrutinized events surrounding President Donald Trump’s campaign and Russia during the 2016 Republican National Convention in Cleveland. Questions linger: The release of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report provided some new details, but several Ohio members of Congress have yet to draw conclusions on what it means. Cleveland.com’s Sabrina Eaton asked five questions about the report to Ohio’s U.S. Senators and the House members who represent Northeast Ohio. Ruling limits abortion law: A federal judge ruled Thursday that Ohio cannot enforce all of a law the Republican-controlled legislature passed that bans an abortion method commonly used during a woman’s second trimester, a federal judge has ruled. Cleveland.com’s Eric Heisig reports the judge lists several portions of a law banning dilation and evacuation that cannot be enforced while a lawsuit filed by Planned Parenthood is litigated. Officers cleared: Two police officers from Parma and Parma Heights have been cleared in connection with a shootout in July 2018 that led to the death of a 28-year-old man, cleveland.com’s Cory Shaffer reports. A grand jury decided not to charge Parma Heights Det. Luke Berry and Parma police officer Peter Shepetiak.
