Facebook Messenger’s Missing “M”
 

Facebook’s recent earnings were a hit, but underlying the great news were questions about Messenger; how it will make money and its potential to fill Facebook’s revenue hole as it runs out of places to show ads inside the news feed. Karen Webster says Messenger’s ambitions to do that by becoming “that one place” that brands and people use to discover each other and do business faces a long, tough slog. Almost as tough as the business analogy, Messenger’s chief, David Marcus, used last month to describe Messenger’s overarching vision: to become the “Yellow Pages” for mobile.
