Kaylee McKeown Clocks 57.93 For The Second Fastest 100m Backstroke in History

Queensland’s new wonder girl Kaylee McKeown has clocked the second fastest time in history with a new Commonwealth and Australian record of 57.93 in a stunning swim on the opening night of the Queensland State Championships at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre.

The 19-year-old from the USC Spartans on the Queensland Sunshine Coast becomes only the second swimmer to break the 58 second barrier – bettered only by American world record holder Regan Smith’s 57.57, set at last year’s Fina World Championships in Gwangju.

Caeleb Dressel, swimming in the Speedo LZR Racer, originally outlawed in the United States on October 1, 2009, tackled the sub 20 in 20 challenge this week in California in an attempt to see how fast he can go in one of the fastest swimsuits of all-time.

The Pros and Cons of the Stroke 50s Being Added to the Olympics?

More and more events have been added to the Olympic program since the first Modern Games in 1896. At those Athens Games, four events were contested, solely with men. The 100-meter freestyle, 500-meter freestyle, 1200-meter freestyle, and a “formal” sailor’s 100-meter free made up the schedule. Seventy-two years later, the number of events had nearly doubled for both men and now-eligible women. Tokyo 2021 is planning to add three new events to the 32 in Rio.

Finalized: USA Swimming’s Winter 18 & Under National Championships Women’s Leaderboard

USA Swimming has finalized its leaderboard thus far for the Winter 18 & under National Championships going on throughout the United States from December 1 – 13. Through the last two weeks with a lot of swimming going on, USA Swimming has finalized the leaderboard so coaches and swimmers can see where they stack up against the other swimmers competing across the country when the COVID-19 pandemic prevents them from competing in a normal Juniors environment.

Shaine Casas Rips Unofficial Fastest Time Ever in SCY 100 IM

Texas A&M junior Shaine Casas swam a 46.33 in the 100 IM in short course yards in Texas A&M’s intrasquad meet on Friday night after its dual meet with in-state foe Incarnate Word ended up getting canceled. Although the 100 IM is not an official USA Swimming event with no record on the books, Casas’ time is quicker than Chris Staka’s 47.23 from earlier this season which is one of the fastest times ever recorded in the men’s 100 IM in yards.

Proceeds support the Hall of Fame.
