David Curtiss Goes 19.11 in 50 Free, Fastest in High School History (VIDEO)

David Curtiss on Saturday made history yet again, the sprinter going 19.11 in the 50-yard freestyle, the fastest time in high school history.

Earlier in the week, he’d clocked in at 19.26 seconds in the 50 to lower his National Independent School record in the event. The Pennsylvania native who swims at the Pennington School in New Jersey, set the mark last February at 19.42 seconds at the Eastern Interscholastic Championships.

No one, other than herself, has ever gone faster than what Katie Ledecky produced in the 800-meter freestyle on Saturday night at the TYR Pro Series in San Antonio. Yet, Ledecky’s winning time of 8:13.64 only ranks 22nd on her all-time list, such is the dominance she has exhibited in the event. Ledecky now owns the 23-fastest times in history, an almost unfathomable statistic, and is storming toward a third consecutive Olympic gold medal in the discipline.

The NCAA released psych sheets for the Division II Championships Saturday, with variable cut lines in the events.

The meet will be held March 17-20 at Alabama CrossPlex in Birmingham. The University of Montevalle is the host, though it has no swimmers entered.
