Netflix Starts Production on ‘The Swimmers’ – Rare On-Screen Look at the Sport

Netflix has begun production on a film called “The Swimmers,” which tells the story of Syrian refugees Yusra and Sarah Mardini. Yusra Mardini swam for the Refugee Olympic team at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

Variety reports that Netflix and Working Title Films are collaborating on the project. Welsh-born Egyptian director Sally El Hosaini will direct. El Hosaini wrote the screenplay with Jack Thorne. Academy Award-nominee producer Stephen Daldry, who was a producer and director for “The Crown,” will serve as executive producer.

Swimmer Alleges Fraud and Intimidation to Qualify for Olympics (Video)

Indian swimmer Likith Prema took to YouTube on Wednesday to accuse the Uzbekistan Swimming Federation with tampering with times at the recent Uzbekistan Open, a FINA-sanctioned qualifier for the Tokyo Olympics, in order to achieve Olympic cuts for its swimmers.

Evidence obtained by Swimming World from sources at the meet shows discrepancies between times posted on the day and those reported to FINA that favor Uzbekistan athletes, providing evidence for Prema’s claims.

In New Documentary, Michael Phelps Reveals How Swimming World Photo Served as Motivation

In the new Peacock-released documentary, “Michael Phelps: Medals, Memories & More,” the 28-time Olympic medalist reveals that he used an image from Swimming World Magazine as motivation following the 2003 World Championships in Barcelona. The revelation comes as Phelps discusses his career with NBC broadcasters Dan Hicks and Rowdy Gaines, who will again work together at this summer’s Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Twenty-Eight Swimmers Named On Team GB For Tokyo Olympics

Team GB has announced a squad of 28 swimmers as they seek to emulate their six-strong medal haul from Rio 2016 at the Olympics in Tokyo in July.

Adam Peaty, Duncan Scott, Luke Greenbank and James Wilby had all been pre-selected to Team GB after winning individual medals at the 2019 World Championships in Gwangju.

A further 24 were added following the recent trials in London meaning that 70 athletes across all sports have been selected to Team GB.

Gretchen Walsh Closes High School Career With 47.5 100 Freestyle at Tennessee High School State

Harpeth Hall senior Gretchen Walsh finished her high school career on Sunday with a 47.55 in the 100 freestyle in Knoxville as the Virginia commit was a half second off the national high school record that she holds at 46.98 set last year. Walsh holds the national high school records in both the 50 and 100 free as her 200 free relay lead-off today was a 21.65, just off the 21.59 record that she holds.
