YMCA Short Course Nationals Cancelled For First Time Since 1947

The YMCA Short Course National Championships have been cancelled for the first time since 1947. Scheduled for March 30-April 3 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center, the meet is the latest in a long list of swim events to be hot by the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) and containment measures around the globe.

The Southern California Swimming (SCS) Junior Olympic Championships will be held from tomorrow until Sunday, as planned, at an alternative venue after the meet was cancelled at the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center, Santa Clara Swim Club, due to a City mandate issued as part of containment measures in the coronavirus (COVID-19) global health emergency.

In a series the 25th anniversary of the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, John Lohn took a look at a soaring swim that would launch Janet Evans on the path to legendary status in the pantheon of greats. For Olympic gold in Seoul, she clocked 4:03.85 over 400m free. It was sensational, Beamonesque. The American distance freestyler redefined her events during her career and her best times remain competitive a quarter century later.
