| It’s time to celebrate the Windrush Generation properly | The Black Lives Matter protests have shown that London has a lot of work to do when it comes to recognising and celebrating the achievements of its BAME citizens. What with this week being the anniversary of the HMT Empire Windrush’s arrival in the capital in 1948, the public is asking the government to create a perpetual memorial, using the ship’s anchor (currently sitting at the bottom of the sea, off the coast of Algeria). And Hackney Council has commissioned two sculptures to be installed permanently in the borough next year. |

Incoming: streaming stuff for your diary | | Until Sunday June 28 Bathe in Glasto ambience | No Glastonbury this year. In the words of the American president: SAD. Luckily the V&A, faithful chronicler of the human condition, has dedicated a load of time and effort to reproducing various bits of ‘the Glastonbury experience’ online. Case in point: a collection of binaural soundscapes which threaten to transport you right back to Worthy Farm. The obvious thing would be to end this with a reference to either mud or drugs. But we respect you. So we won’t. | The best of the rest: | Today, 6pm Stop yakking, it’s time for some bloody art, courtesy of Somerset House and tech-focused maven Alan Warburton.
Today, 7pm The Royal Institution cordially invites you to its talk on cosmology. Nice and light for a Tuesday.
Wednesday, 1pm City Lit will be chatting with Ruby Wax about mental health and other struggles during the current crisis.

This is how cinemas are about to change | | Ah, the old silver screen. Nothing like it, is there? Shoulder to shoulder with your fellow movie enthusiasts, putting away handful after handful of semi-stale pick ’n’ mix, realising ten minutes into the new ‘Fast and Furious’ film that you’re getting old and all the loud bangs give you a migraine. Nothing. Like. It. Well, in July cinemas should be able to reopen again. The catch: they will be nothing like how you remember. |
