Newsletter: 2017 Year of Global Citizenship

At Skateistan 2016 was the 'Year of Being Kind', and in 2017 it is the year of 'Global Citizenship'. This theme will run through all of our programs and be the basis for the curriculum. Our students will study what it means to be a part of a global community and what our responsibilities to each other are. It's such an important topic for Skateistan and the world right now!

From Afghanistan to Cambodia to South Africa, all of our students are learning together as global citizens. The first newsletter of the year celebrates this and more! If you like it, please share it with a couple of friends by clicking the envelope icon at the top of the page.

Designing Dream Cities and ‘Global Citizens in Action’

Skate and Create students in Kabul started the Community Mapping curriculum, with the first task being to design a dream city of their own. At the same time, the Youth Leaders were taking part in a video conference with students at the Oakwood School in Los Angeles as part of the “Global Citizens in Action” exchange program.

Citizen Profile: Banele and Iminathi, Skate and Create Students (Johannesburg)

"I love being at Skateistan because with skateboarding you can roll around on the board or watch people doing tricks. In the classroom, we get to do educational things that I also enjoy."

Banele, Skate and Create Student, Johannesburg.

Each month we feature the story of a Citizen of Skateistan from one of our Skate Schools. But this month we have two stories to tell you! The stories of Banele and Iminathi, who are both Skate and Create students in Johannesburg. They are enthusiastic students who love coming to Skate School!
