Elena and her three children are lucky to be alive. They fled Mykolaiv in Ukraine when their house was struck by shelling, shattering all the windows and blowing off the roof. They managed to escape and are now safe in Moldova, but they have nothing.
“There was no time to pack, we had to run,” says Elena. “We only took two backpacks with documents and the most important things.”
