'Scotland's Covid detection rate the worst of all UK nations'

Scotland’s coronavirus detection rate is the worst of the UK nations, according to a report from former prime minister Gordon Brown’s think-tank.

Even though the tracking and tracing programme is working relatively well, only around 32 per cent of cases are being picked up by tests, Our Scottish Future says.

The latest public health data has broken down the number of positive covid-19 cases per 100,000 people, according to council area from January 2- January 8.

The islands have been keeping Covid at bay the most successfully but there are a number of surprises in the data with several mainland regions bucking national trends.

To make things worse the bill for the average funeral in Scotland has risen by 5.7 per cent - one of the highest increases in the UK and taking the average cost above £4,000 for the first time in 17 years, a report has found.
