Dear Reader,

Boris Johnson has eased some holiday worries by loosening the UK’s travel restrictions to a selection of countries. Seven nations have been added to the green list, while the amber and amber plus lists have received a shake-up. Nevertheless, plenty of uncertainty hangs over the whole process. Greg Dickinson details all you need to know about the announcement. You can follow the latest developments on our travel live blog.

Few issues around vaccinations have been as controversial as whether to give the jab to children. The UK has announced that 16- and 17-year-olds will be inoculated, but not the majority of younger teenagers. What is behind the decision? David Cox explains the real rationale.

Britain’s relationship with France appears, on the surface at least, to have become rather strained recently. As Ambrose Evans-Pritchard points out, there has been no shortage of disputes, from the AstraZeneca jab to Channel migrants. However, the reality, argues Ambrose, is that relations are ripe for a rebound – if Emmanuel Macron leaves the Elyse Palace.

Exercise and a good diet are the obvious answers to leading a healthy life in middle age. There are, however, plenty of other small but significant tweaks you can make to your lifestyle to ensure you’re still in your prime. From having five good friends to owning a pet, Abigail Buchanan walks you through them.
