YOUR WEEKLY DIGEST OF TORONTO FOOD NEWS

Dear reader,

Another year, another ranking of Toronto’s best restaurants. It feels like yesterday that we announced our 2024 list, but here we are again. Time flies when you’re surrounded by excellent food. Twenty restaurants might sound like a lot, but when a city is spoiled for choice—like ours is—choosing only 20 is next to impossible.

Every one of this year’s restaurants—from a quick-service Italian sandwich counter to a $680 tasting menu experience—left a serious impression. These are the places we couldn’t stop thinking of, the places we told our friends about, the places we wanted to return to again and again (okay, maybe not for that $680 tasting menu: that’s probably a once-in-a-lifetime thing). I hope you enjoy reading about them as much as we enjoyed writing about them—then go see for yourself how fantastic they all are.

Also in this week’s newsletter: how Danny McCallum went from hardcore vegan to executive chef at one of Toronto’s top steakhouses, a sneak peek at the limited-time-only Mimi Chinese x Shake Shack collaboration and what’s on the menu at King West’s new Thai restaurant with a twist.

TORONTO’S BEST NEW RESTAURANTS

After months and months of delicious research, we’re proud to present our 43rd annual ranking of the best places to eat in Toronto right now. This year’s list features a Korean Ecuadorian diner, a supper club that showcases regional Chinese dishes tweaked with seasonal Canadian ingredients and a Parkdale chaat house that makes a mean Pakistani Sloppy Joe. It’s official: fusion is in. But the restaurant that took the top spot is the prettiest British pub the city has ever seen. Warning: do not read this on an empty stomach.
