Good morning Voornaam,
Happy Wednesday!
I hope you are managing your emotions around the Proteas. I can feel myself being emotionally sucked into this Cricket World Cup, with significant PTSD based on the infamous bat-dropping incident that was a blemish on my childhood.
Speaking of PTSD, Famous Brands pointed out in its earnings that South Africa had a poor potato harvest this year. I can deal with a lot of things in this world, but I'm not emotionally strong enough to cope with a chips shortage. Perhaps we can swap rugby coaches for potatos with Ireland?
There's a huge amount of company news in Ghost Bites this morning, so be sure to read it here. I would also like to highlight the latest article from Satrix, dealing with the reasons why ETFs are (deservedly) so popular.
Enjoy your day!

| There have been winners on the local market, if you know where to look. The question is whether those winners can keep winning. I covered Spur, The Foschini Group and CA Sales Holdings in this piece for EasyEquities. |

TreasuryONE Market Update PMI data out of the Eurozone has confirmed that things are not lekker on that side of the pond. Sadly, the resultant strength of the dollar also hit the rand, moving to R19.14 before heading back to roughly R19.00. The Core PCE number on Friday is another data point to watch for rand movement.
Although Gold was pushing the $2,000 per ounce level just a few days ago, some geopolitical tensions have diminished and gold is now at $1,970. Brent Crude is trading below $88 per barrel. Before we get too excited, it's important to remember that the wrong headlines from the Middle East can easily set prices running again.
TreasuryONE has released a new weekly market review. The video is embedded below, or you can watch it on YouTube here>>> |

Cycles. Cycles everywhere. If you're going to invest in industries like mining or shipping, then you need to prepare yourself for a wild ride.

Exhibit B: the Santova share price over the past year: |

Cycles are astonishing things. Supply and demand imbalances can drive huge moves in the market, with the correction usually being just as severe as the initial move.
To learn about Anglo American Platinum, Santova and so much more this morning (including Famous Brands and my concerns about chips), read Ghost Bites at this link. |
