Friend, Republicans in Congress just dropped three totally B.S. fake Net Neutrality bills — and we need to expose them for what they really are and stop them in their tracks. Reps. Bob Latta, Cathy McMorris Rodgers and Greg Walden all introduced bills that pretend to protect the open internet but would actually do the opposite. And here’s the thing: There are a lot of new members of Congress who don’t know as much about this issue as people like you. They could easily fall for the lies these bills tell and that the cable and phone lobbyists will parrot in their offices. This is why your pushback is so crucial right now. Tell Rep. Ted Lieu to reject the fake Net Neutrality bills right now. We’ve seen these fake compromises masquerading as real Net Neutrality before, and these bills are all lies, all around. They all create massive loopholes in the law that would allow for a bunch of harmful discriminatory practices and likely prevent the Federal Communications Commission from adopting and enforcing rules that would actually protect people going forward. Disguised as Net Neutrality legislation, these bills just protect phone and cable companies from any real oversight while paying lip service to an issue members of Congress know their constituents feel passionately about. The Comcasts and Verizons of the world don’t need protecting. These companies are after one thing only: profit at any cost. But the internet is a critical tool for all of us trying to thrive in today’s world. Net Neutrality is what keeps the internet free and open for social movements to grow, marginalized communities to tell their own stories and small businesses to succeed. We can’t afford to roll back Net Neutrality any further. Tell Rep. Lieu to oppose the fake Net Neutrality bills today. These bills needs to be exposed for what they are: a cynical industry effort to prevent the FCC from enforcing the law to keep the internet open and free from discrimination. Let’s stop these terrible, horrible, no good, very bad Net Neutrality bills in their tracks. Thanks for all that you do— Sandy, Candace, Heather and the rest of the Free Press Action team freepress.net P.S. Urgent: Three House reps have introduced three fake Net Neutrality bills that are a gift to industry and nothing but pain for the rest of us. Urge Rep. Lieu to stop these bills in their tracks.
