Hi John,

Third-party developers are able to scan Gmail accounts, according to a new report. More than a year ago, Google pledged to stop its systems from snooping on Gmail inboxes in order to personalise advertising.

A joint US$500 million (A$675 million) fund for investment in early to late-stage venture technology opportunities in the US, Asia and Australia has been set up by Telstra Ventures and Boston-based private equity firm HarbourVest Partners.

Telstra has made its iPhone X, 8 and Cellular iPad plans more competitive, presumably in response to market competition, with Telstra's still superior network the ace up its sleeve.

Meanwhile, Boost Mobile doesn't consider itself an MVNO, but its major competitors are telcos and MVNOs, so it has responded to ever better plans with more data and international calls.

Western Australia-based telecommunications provider Norwood Systems has struck a deal with Thomas Cook Money for the latter to sell subscriptions to its World Wi-Fi product for use by the latter's customers.

Open source company Red Hat crossed the US$2 billion mark in annual revenue some time ago and indications are that the 24-year-old firm will soon cross the next revenue milestone – US$3 billion. There is, thus, no reason for the company to continue to do deals with the NSA, given that the philosophy it advocates in public stands in marked contrast to what the NSA does, says Sam Varghese.
