Tantra: enlightenment to revolution
Think Tantra’s all about the sexy time? Well get your mind out the gutter and think again. The British Museum’s fascinating new exhibition will illustrate just how a philosophy that emerged in early medieval India has been linked with revolutionary thought for more than a thousand years.

We don’t want to give too much away but you’re going to learn how the Tantric worldview sees all material reality as animated by unlimited, divine feminine power. How it challenged traditional ideas of womanhood as docile and passive, and how it impacted the radical politics of the ‘60s and ‘70s in the UK and the US.

To tell these incredible stories the exhibition showcases extraordinary objects from India, Nepal, Tibet, Japan and the UK, from the seventh century to the present, including masterpieces of sculpture, painting, prints and ritual objects. Genuinely fascinating stuff.
