| For this Giving Tuesday, we’re supporting CoachArt—a wonderful nonprofit organization whose work is sometimes described as a cross between Make-A-Wish and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. Since its founding in 2001, CoachArt has matched more than 15,000 kids impacted by chronic illness who want to learn an arts or athletics hobby with a volunteer coach who can teach them that hobby. About Coach Art CoachArt uses the same style of app that is used to match riders and drivers or parents and babysitters.
Their app, CoachArt Connect, makes it possible for a volunteer to: - go through an online training and background check
- find a child impacted by chronic illness who wants to learn from him or her
- match and schedule the lessons directly with that child’s parent
When the pandemic hit, CoachArt added the option for virtual lessons via video conferencing—and has seen a 53% increase in the number of lesson hours taking place per month.
This summer, CoachArt expanded their services from California to five new cities: Chicago, Dallas, Denver, New York City and Portland. Next year, they’re aiming to make the programs available across America to any child impacted by chronic illness, and recruit volunteers nationwide to participate.
