So did you get back to pumping iron and doing press ups at your local gym this weekend?

Thousands of us Lancastrians did, many welcoming the opportunity to take exercising out of the living room or garden and into a more social environment, albeit a socially-distanced one.

There is no questioning the benefits and the  rise and rise of online  fitness, it has transformed the industry forever and is going nowhere.

But getting back into a fitness studio environment, with access to all the equipment required is a bonus, particularly for those who had to make do with tins of beans as pseudo-weights during lockdown - and as much home-gym equipment sold out or was at a premium.

There is also no doubting the benefits of getting out of the house and seeing other people for all of our mental health.

Despite technical advances, one of the biggest challenges during full lockdown was combating loneliness and feeling trapped and for many the gym or local pool provides critical escape and represents freedom.
