Is Weed More Addictive Than We’ve Been Led to Believe?

Ever since I was a teenager (buying incense at the mall), I’ve heard the same refrain over and over again: weed is not addictive. To be honest, that never felt entirely true. I mean, just because my high school friends could make gravity bongs did not make them experts on this topic. Admittedly, we had no clue what we were talking about. As for the weed-smoking community outside my circle of friends, there are over 360,000 users in the subreddit r/leaves, an online group for people trying to quit or seeking support in their recovery, who would beg to differ with the assessment that cannabis is not addictive.

I genuinely do not know how I wound up in a position where I am so frequently writing about men’s style, given that, as I’m sure many of my colleagues would eagerly attest, I am not a particularly stylish dresser. And certainly not an adventurous one. But for whatever reason, you guys seem to respond to it pretty well when I do, which is kind of a nice feeling. So today, I thought I’d run down the brands I turn to most often as a 46-year-old dude who works in a very casual office and occasionally has to go to events where everyone seems very cool, but who is most often just driving kids places and going to record stores and neighborhood restaurants. The stuff of dreams, I know.

“Spirited Women” Is the Best Drinks Book of the Year

In Spirited Women: Makers, Shakers, and Trailblazers in the World of Cocktails, the writer-illustrator duo of Sammi Katz and Olivia McGiff celebrate women in the drinks industry, from mixologists to brand owners to distillers (and plenty more). If you’re like, “Yeah, there’s plenty of women in the industry today, so what,” well, this is recent history. As Katz and McGiff point out in the introduction of Spirited Women, it was less than 80 years ago that the Supreme Court upheld a Michigan law prohibiting women from tending bar unless their father or husband owned the establishment. That law was overturned in 1976, only two years after women were allowed to open their own bar tabs without a man’s approval (credit the Equal Credit Opportunity Act).
