Acadiana artist and business owner Colette Bernard has learned to seize the moment.

In March 2023, the 24-year-old's rent check bounced. Just over a year later, Bernard is the proud owner of Jefferson Street gift shop Cocodrie: Curated Curiosities by Colette, a namesake design studio and online store, and the recently opened Retreaux, a vintage clothing boutique.

What's behind the turnaround? A trio of original hair claw designs.
