| | Picture Britain: Our People, Our Poverty | | New photography exhibition celebrates the strength and resilience of people swept into poverty | What’s the one thing you couldn’t live without? This was the question posed to the subjects in ‘Picture Britain: Our people, Our poverty’ – a new photographic exhibition opening in London next week. Each person is either experiencing poverty in Britain or working closely with those that are; and each of their answers will surprise you. From Thursday February 20 - Saturday March 7, Market Hall in Borough Market will exhibit work by acclaimed photographer Jillian Edelstein. Commissioned by social change organisation The Joseph Rowntree Foundation, ‘Picture Britain’ aims to shed light on low-income communities living in today’s turbulent conditions by telling their often unheard stories . Hope and dignity shines through, as does the incredible power of communities and individuals working to alleviate poverty, but also the systems and structures which hold people back. Providing an authentic picture of those battling to stay afloat, ‘Picture Britain’ moves the spotlight on poverty from shame and blame to compassion and change.
