Good evening A few weeks ago, Preston was named the best North West city in which to live. That’s a decent feat, given we have Manchester and Liverpool on our doorstep. But to be honest, it was not a great surprise to most of us who live here. While we all moan about the place we live from time to time, it is easy to see why our city should be at the top of the tree. For a start, we are lucky enough to have some magnificent green spaces, then there is the location on four motorway networks and the West Coast Mainline, which makes it attractive to employers. Then there is the history and architecture, from the Harris Library to Miller Arcade, and the sporting heritage. It is also a city looking forward, with ambitions and vision to match, even in these difficult times. But the one thing that makes Preston stand out from anywhere else is the people. Welcoming and friendly, they are the most important asset of our city and that is what draws people here and encourages them to stay. Given it’s Valentine’s Day on Sunday, make sure you love your city!
