CAM Exhibition Spotlight:

Goodbye State of the Art! Show Closes Sunday!

All good things must come to an end and Sunday is the last day to see State of the Art/ Art of the State. Since opening on April 8, we've welcomed over 8,000 visitors to this amazing show.

The line outside Cameron Art Museum on April 1

It all began on April 1 as we invited any NC artist 18 and over to come to CAM during our 24-hour Art Happening. The response was tremendous as we welcomed over 2,000 people to the museum. We had 24 hours of non-stop programming that included spoken word, music, films and drag queens!

You are State of the Art!

Participating artists were invited to have their work photographed, record a video and finally were welcomed into the gallery space to speak to nationally renowned curator.

This year’s curators included Alejo Benedetti from Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art,

Dr. Maia Nuku from The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Michael Rooks from the High Museum of Art Atlanta.

776 individual artists and their works became part of State of the Art / Art of the State that opened to the public on April 8. The Star News called it, "... a thunderous and ultimately beautiful statement affirming that all art is valid" and we couldn't agree more!

“Thank you to all the artists cross the state of North Carolina who participated in this year’s State of the Art/ Art of the State. This year’s exhibition is a testimony to the resiliency of our state and the arts community following the pandemic.”

                             - Deputy Director Heather Wilson
