CAM Exhibition Spotlight The Last Days of Love |
Love is eternal, infinite and goes on and on, but unfortunately Love the exhibition closes in less than one month. Please come see this amazing exhibition before it closes for good on Sunday, October 8.
Love examines this sometimes intense, often elusive emotion. True love, familial love, romantic love, self-love, platonic love, forbidden love, and lost love are all aspects of this universal emotion.
Through contemporary art, Love explores, celebrates, and looks deeply at these various aspects of love and connects us with our shared humanity.
Love is an adaptation of the 2022 exhibition, What Is Left Unspoken, Love at the High Museum of Art, Atlanta. |

Love features three incredible works on loan from the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, including powerful videos from Andrea Galvani and Rashid Johnson along with a beautiful beaded punching bag from Jeffrey Gibson titled The Love You Give Is The Love You Get which as curator Micheal Rooks writes,“suggests that love is a form of conditioning that requires practice and discipline and is contingent upon reciprocity, necessarily casting uncertainty on the notion of “unconditional love.’” |
Loans for this exhibition are from Art Bridges and Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, the High Museum of Art, and private collections.
This is also the first time that Cameron Art Museum has presented the work of influential conceptual artist Felix Gonzalez-Torres (American, b. Guáimaro, Cuba, 1957; died Miami, Florida, 1996). |
Love includes Untitled, (LA), 1991 from Gonzalez-Torres, on loan from Art Bridges and Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, a work consisting of often colorful cellophane wrapped hard candies which have become known as “candy spills.”
Gonzalez-Torres transforms the stark language of minimalism to elicit reflections on love and loss. As individual pieces of candy are taken from the installation and consumed, the gradual depletion of the spill serves as a metaphor for absence, transience, and the inevitability of loss, while the replenishment of the candy each day extends the metaphor as an act of remembrance and the continuation of love after death. |
As part of funding from Art Bridges, CAM has created some programming associated with the Felix Gonzalez-Torres piece including "Untitled" (Felix Gonzalez-Torres: Love, Art, and the LGBTQ+ Experience), a lecture and gallery talk with artist and art historian Ben Billingsley taking place this Thursday at 6:30 pm. Click HERE to register. |
CAM also presents "Untitled" (Generations) on Saturday, October 7. This family day event takes inspiration from the Gonzalez-Torres work and invites families of all ages and kinds to take part in activities and learn more from various community partners who will be on hand to share resources and more. Click HERE for more information. |
Love goes out with a bang as we welcome Michael Rooks, the Wieland Family Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the High Museum of Art, for a gallery talk on Sunday, October 1.
This will be an informative and entertaining talk about the works in Love and more. |

Boundless has always represented more than just the USCT who marched on our grounds but rather the resiliency of a people worldwide. We honor the many voices of the African diaspora wherever they found themselves in the western world.
Bossa Nova or a "New Sound" builds itself off the samba rhythms of Afro Brazilians and jazz influenced chord voicings. A beautifully distinct sound that calms wherever its heard.
Join us for a evening of calm Brazilian sounds from Raphael Namé and his ensemble.
