Hiroshi Sueyoshi

Hiroshi Sueyoshi

(Japanese, b. 1946)

Rock Garden was created by CAM’s artist-in-residence of many years Hiroshi Sueyoshi for a retrospective exhibition of his work in 2014. This installation, which was acquired in the same year, evokes meditation and contemplation.

Four white slip cast face masks are lined on the wall in pairs, looking towards the center of the installation where the large stone pillar sits in a stone garden. Hand built "rocks" hang from wires on the ceiling, giving the illusion that they are floating midair. One of the rocks in the garden has a human face.

Rock Garden, 2014 by Hiroshi Sueyoshi is now on view at part of 20 Years at CAM
