Elizabeth Bradford Duckweed as Constellations, 2018 Acrylic and Glitter on Canvas Collection of Cameron Art Museum Purchase made possible through The Wells Fargo Foundation Women Artists Fund | | January Collection Spotlight We wanted to highlight one of our recent acquisitions for this month’s Collection Spotlight. Here is Duckweed as Constellations by Elizabeth Bradford. This work was on view as part of Elizabeth Bradford A House of One Room which was on view March 12, 2021 to October 17, 2021 Elizabeth Bradford describes Duckweed as Constellations, “Duckweed was inspired by reflections in the black water at Merchant's Millpond, in Hoke County. I have, several times, paddled and camped there, where every tree rising from the water forms its own little island. Each island is its own tiny ecosystem, and all are populated with wildlife. The tree forms there are strange and otherworldly, as are their reflections. Duckweed grows there in abundance. Looking into the reflected sky, I imagined what I saw as the cosmos, and the sprinklings of duckweed, constellations. Thus the title. Otherworldly, indeed. Few places lend themselves so well to thoughts of other worlds.” | |
