WEEKLY E-NEWS

Happy Holidays from CAM

This past year, CAM presented 10 exhibitions, 75 public programs, 60 youth programs, 208 classes, 300 school tours, and 100 public tours.

In the coming year, I am excited to announce that we will present Thomas Sayre: Four Wallsan exhibition of new work by artist Thomas Sayre in April and publish a catalog for this exhibition featuring the writing of Larry Wheeler, Liza Roberts, and Georgann Eubanks.

This fall, we will celebrate the continuing evolution of our museum through a new installation of the collection that will help us to think about our collection in new ways. 2024 will mark an important year for our museum as we continue to grow, thrive, and serve eastern North Carolina, and we can’t wait for you to be a part of it.

If you haven’t yet, I hope that you will consider making a gift to our year-end appeal. This important annual fundraiser provides much needed general operational support to ensure that the institution you love will continue to serve our region for years to come. Happy holidays.

With gratitude,

Heather Wilson

Executive Director, Cameron Art Museum

Monument

Monument takes inspiration from Boundless, the public sculpture on Cameron Art Museum’s grounds by Stephen Hayes honoring the United States Colored Troops (USCT) and their fight for freedom. Through their work, artists Radcliffe Bailey, Sonya Clark, Willie Cole, Stephen Hayes, Juan Logan, Alison Saar, Augustus Saint-Gaudens, Kara Walker, and others create a dialogue acknowledging, questioning, and confronting the idea of commemoration in the built environment in the United States.

Place of Encounters/ Lugar de Encuentros

North Carolina is home to a rich diversity of voices, and this is reflected in its community of Latin American artists.

Work from Lugar de Encuentros / Place of Encounters often straddles two worlds, reflecting both birthplace and resettlement, exploring both tension and harmony in the relationship between the two. Artists include

Nico Amortegui, CornelioCampos, Rodrigo Dorfman, Mario Marzan,

Renzo Ortega, and Rosalia Torres-Weiner.

Illumination 2023

Celebrate artistry and light at Cameron Art Museum’s 9th annual artist-made lanterns exhibition, Illumination 2023.

Interpreting the light that shines from within, artists from across the United States and Canada have created traditional and contemporary lanterns.

This display marks the transition of the season’s change and the year’s end as we begin our return to light.

The installation can be enjoyed inside the museum or outside the Studio One windows.
