It's going to be a very busy winter season at Cameron Art Museum.
We kick off 2023 with our Floating Lanterns Ceremony this Sunday, January 8. This annual event is a wonderful way to honor a loved one or to set an intention for the year ahead. This is a CAM Community Day with FREE admission to the museum and event! |
The following Saturday & Sunday January 14 & 15 we honor Dr. Martin Luther King's iconic "I Have a Dream" speech with our annual Peace Flag Weekend. The community is invited to take inspiration from the speech and create a Peace Flag that will be installed around CAM's Reflection Pond. |
Saturday, January 14 is also the opening of Black Lives Do Matter at CAM. Cameron Art Museum has partnered with the arts collective Eighteen Forward to present an eighteen-letter installation displayed on the museum grounds. The public is encouraged to view these eight-foot-high letters as they meander through CAM’s outdoor space.
Black Lives Do Matter at CAM joins the museum’s other outdoor works, including the recently opened PNC USCT Park featuring the Stephen Hayes designed sculpture Boundless, activating the museum's 9.4-acre grounds.

The DesignNC Book Seriespresented by Protocol launches at CAM on Friday, January 27 with interior designer and cookbook author Karen Allen. This new lecture series is an opportunity to hear directly from significant figures in the field of interior design and beyond in an intimate and relaxed setting. |
Join us February 18 & 19 for Battle of Forks Road Commemoration a Living History Weekend at CAM. Learn about the lives of the United States Colored Troops with reenactors from the 35th USCT and Battery B on CAM's historic grounds. There will be family activities, film screenings, lectures, tours and more. |

Illumination 2022, our artist-made lantern exhibition, will be on view through January 15.
AIDS Quilts at CAM featuring four large panels from the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt plus a panel from the Cape Fear community will be on view through January 28. |
60+, ourexhibition that explores the love of community and art that is our legacy will be on view through April 9. Works featured include art by Mary Cassatt, Minnie Evans, Claude Howell and more.
Promise is on view through May 21 and highlights promised gifts from the collections of Glen and Florence Hardymon and Andrew and Hathia Hayes, as well as new acquisitions and other promised gifts to CAM’s collection. Artists featured in this exhibition include Rick Beck, LisaClague, Christina Cordova, Jim Dine, MaudGatewood, Susan Taylor Glasgow, Sol Lewitt, Juan Logan, Beverly McIver, Joan Miro, RobertMotherwell, Robert Rauschenberg, Frank Stella, Hiroshi Sueyoshi, and Steffan Thomas.

Book Panel Discussion Art of the State: Celebrating the Visual Art of North Carolina with Author Liza Roberts Saturday, January 28, 2023, 1 PM Free with museum admission
Author Liza Roberts presents a panel discussion on the launch of her new book: Art of the State: Celebrating the Visual Art of North Carolina. Artists Christina Lorena Weisner of Kitty Hawk and Ben Knight of Kinston will join the author for a discussion on current trends on our state. Roberts’ book showcases the creation, collection, and celebration of art in all its richness and diversity. Roberts provides fascinating historical context, such as the influence of Black Mountain College, while weaving together the profiles of individual artists, compelling interviews, and beautiful full-color photography to tell the story of the state's evolution through the lens of its art world and some of its most compelling figures.

Manny Santos is a jazz percussionist, bandleader, and vocalist who hails from New Bedford, Massachusetts and is of Cape Verdean decent. He became interested in jazz percussion at an early age and began performing professionally at the age of 15. His future would become one of polyrhythmic expressionism, inclusive of the jazz and Latin experience.
Manny appears on a number of recordings, including with flutist Treg Monty and pianist Yasko Kubota, No Place To Hide, (available on CDFreedom.com), with The Geoffrey Hicks Quartet, entitled Cartagena, (available on Amazon.com), with Willie Sordillo, Echoing (available on Amazon.com), and with World Music KabuJazz vocalist Candida Rose, The Sum of Me. |

Tour Connections Monday Monday, January 9, 2023, 10:30 AM-12:30 PM Sold Out Enjoy a morning of music in the galleries, adapted exhibition exploration, as well as optional hands-on activities and the choice to bring a boxed lunch to enjoy in our café or courtyard area. Geared towards individuals in the earlier stages of Alzheimers and dementia, this program is offered on Mondays when we are otherwise closed to the public to ensure a quiet and calm environment. Join Bobbi Fitzsimmons for a conversation around the art that she and her husband collected over 44 years. Her passion for art began as a child in Southport and traveled with her through a career as an educator and quilting artist. Bobbi says, "Great wealth is not necessary to build an admirable art collection. Sometimes, time and place are just as important – as well as appreciation, education, passion, luck, and persistence play a role." Bobbi will share stories about several of the artists, their styles, and what makes them so appealing. |

We invite the community to take inspiration from King’s iconic speech from 1963 and create a Tibetan prayer flags.Your flag will be included in a community installation that will be displayed around the CAM pond. |
