CAM Spotlight:

Getting personal in

State of the Art

State of the Art Artist #574 - Amy Hardison

On April 1, we hosted over 2,000 visitors to CAM for our 24-hour State of the Art/Art of the State art happening/art drop off day.

During the event, artists were invited to sit for our cameras and tell their stories.

Currently, we have over 100 of these artist interviews showcased on CAMStateoftheArt.org with more coming each day.

State of the Art Artist #707 - Chris Moncrief

Today we wanted to highlight a few that showcased an artist's personal journey and creative process.

Whether talking about physical health or health of the environment, these artists bravely share their stories that inform their creative process.

State of the Art Artist #204 - Fariba York

We are honored by their generosity of self and are thrilled to share their stories with you. Visit CAMstateoftheart.org to see more videos.

See State of the Art/Art of the State in person at Cameron Art Museum through October 9.

It is with great honor that Cameron Art Museum pays tribute to Mary Cameron Hoey by naming its most popular and long standing family program after her. Mary’s Art Explorers is a story time, art making, and museum exploration program.

Inspired by our featured story Summer Song, we will celebrate the colors of summer! We will look for examples of summer inside our exhibitions, then create collages using some of our favorite images of summertime.

Art Explorers is geared towards infants, toddler and preschoolers, but big brothers and sisters are welcome to join and create art with us. Space is limited so preregister to guarantee your spot!

Visiting Artist: Stephen Hayes

Sculpture: Creating with Found Materials

Join Boundless creator and Duke professor Stephen Hayes for this rare opportunity to explore the creative process of sculpture using found materials.

In addition to Boundless, Hayes' recent CAM solo show Voices of Future’s Past was both a critical and popular success that examined social and economic themes impacting the African American experience expressed through sculpture, assemblage and textile work. Hayes was also recently accepted into Kehinde Wiley’s prestigious Black Rock artist in residency program in Senegal.

Fisher Hermit Boardwalk, the riverscape of Carolina Beach State Park and much more.
