CAM Volunteer Spotlight:

60 Years

Gala Committee Chairs

Nina Murray (left) and Carol Miller (right) photographed in State of the Art

CAM relies on the support from our community of volunteers to help with every day needs as well as organizing big events like our 60 Years Gala. Today in our Volunteer Spotlight we introduce you to the Gala Committee Chairs Nina Murray and Carol Miller.

In addition to serving on the Gala committee, Nina also serves on CAM's Board of Trustees.

Why do you choose to volunteer with CAM?

I volunteer at the CAM because I find it incredibly meaningful to see the work that goes into the different exhibitions that are brought in to be displayed. The dedication and love for all those who step foot in the museum makes an impact in the community and I feel called to give back to something that does so much for those in the area. For me, I enjoy being able to continuously learn something new about the different types of art and have discovered new insights about the artist behind the art.

Why should people purchase a Gala Ticket?

I strongly feel that people should purchase a gala ticket to this year's event to celebrate and support the work that the CAM has offered to the community for the past 60 years. For example, the cost of one Gala ticket can give a scholarship to 2 underserved young people to attend summer camp or it can cover the cost of supplies for one youth class.

It's time to celebrate and enjoy an unforgettable night while reminiscing on history and artist that make this place so special. If you've never been to the CAM that is ok. This is your chance to come and experience the entire museum for an evening that you'll never forget.

Carol led the USCT fundraising team that was instrumental in raising funds for Boundless now permanently installed on CAM's grounds

Why do you choose to volunteer with CAM?

I first became aware of the Cameron Art Museum through their Jazz @ the CAM series in 2016. Being new to the area I realized the CAM was more than an Art Museum. It was equally amazing to see the diverse artistic genres being offered in the exhibits as well as the adult classes, lectures and family programs being offered. Another reason I chose to volunteer is because of my husband's role as Chair of the Board of Trustees. I have always been active in the communities we've lived in, and the CAM is a way to stay engaged and assure others are aware of what the CAM has to offer. The gratitude of the CAM staff has made me feel like a valuable member of the team.

Why should people purchase a Gala Ticket?

The CAM Gala is the major fund raiser for 2022. By purchasing a ticket, the proceeds will allow CAM to continue the work of the institution. Over 60,000 people (of which 8,000 were children)visited the CAM during 2022. It's important to realize that children from birth to age 17 are admitted to the museum at no charge. Gala tickets help to cover operational challenges. Local university and community college students as well as families with EBT cards also can enjoy the museum free of charge. There is a tax-deductible component of $125 for each ticket purchase.
