Ceramicist Mark Hewitt

Michele Tejuola Turner

(American, b. 1956)


Michele Tejuola Turner was born and raised in Detroit Michigan, the child of two Southern emigres. After graduating from the Cass Technical High School (Detroit) in 1974 and the Columbus College of Art and Design (Columbus, Ohio) in 1978, she worked in retail advertising and designed catalogs and other collateral for department stores. In the 1990s, she moved to North Carolina, where she established herself as a gourd artist. Michele Tejuola Turner: In Praise of Our Mothers was one of the opening exhibitions in 2002.

Michele Tejuola Turner Comes to CAM!


Join 20 Years artist Michele Tejuola Turner as she spends time at Cameron Art Museum for an Illustrated Lecture on Thursday April 28 and a Gallery Talk the next day, Friday, April 29 at 11 AM. The illustrated lecture will give visitors a complete the scope of her work while the Gallery Talk will provide an intimate look at the specific works within the 20 Years gallery space. Both events will offer insight into her work and process and are not to be missed!

The 2022 FlowILM event hosted by Cameron Art Museum will feature an array of artists, scientists, local non-profits and UNCW labs/programs focused on local/global water issues, including educational and family-oriented activities and more. The arts portion of the event will feature live performance, dance, sculpture, installation and light / sound work created by an array of artists listed below and produced by the Coaction Lab at The University of North Carolina Wilmington. This community art event is committed to articulating the un/stable relationships between organisms, environments, and technology.
