Fall Preview

A New Season at

It’s a busy new season here at the Cameron Art Museum and we’re excited about our upcoming exhibitions and celebrations!

60+

October 7, 2022 - April 9, 2023

Cameron Art Museum has served its community for 60 years. This exhibition explores the love of community and art that is the museum’s legacy. Beginning in 1962 with St. John’s Museum of Art through CAM’s expansion and growth of its collection thanks to gifts of patrons, 60+ looks forward to a bold future. Works featured include art by Mary Cassatt, Minnie Evans, Claude Howell, and more.

Gala

Saturday, November 12

6 pm to 11 pm

Join us for our fall Gala celebrating the themes of Art, Community, and Love which are at the very heart of our mission. This year’s gala will feature creative cuisine from CAM Cafe and Catch, a live auction hosted by WECT’s Frances Weller, along with music and dancing from Mangroove and Fantasy. It will be an amazing evening. 


Proceeds from ticket sales support our mission of enriching southeastern North Carolina community with high-quality exhibitions, lifelong learning in the arts, dynamic public programs, and stewardship and interpretation of our collection.

Promise

November 12, 2022 – March 12, 2023

As we celebrate 60 years of Cameron Art Museum’s history, Promise looks forward to the museum’s future. This exhibition highlights promised gifts from the collections of Glen and Florence Hardymon and Andrew and Hathia Hayes, as well as new acquisitions and other promised gifts to CAM’s collection.

PNC USCT Park

Sunday, November 13

FREE Museum Admission 

Join us on Sunday, November 13 as we celebrate the opening of the PNC USCT Park with a FREE Community Day. CAM will be open to the public with free admission all day. The day will feature performances, music from the Williston Alumni Choir and family activities as we celebrate the one year anniversary of the unveiling of Boundless and the opening of the first public park in the country to honor the United States Colored Troops.


It’s a very busy season here at CAM and we hope you can join us for all of it!

Al Strong Quintet

Al Strong is two time Grammy Nominated trumpet player, composer, recording artist and educator.

A cultural innovator, he is the co-founder of the Art of Cool Project, which spawned the original Art of Cool Music Festival in Durham, N.C. and the stArt of Cool youth summer camp.

New CAM Members are invited to a Member Coffee to meet Executive Director Anne Brennan or Deputy Director Heather Wilson and learn a little about CAM’s history. It’s an introduction to CAM’s exhibitions, programs, classes and volunteer opportunities.

Free for educators & administrators Pre-K to College; Pre-registration required


Spend a fun and relaxing evening at CAM with free admission during an exclusive event for educators and view our new exhibitions. Our Educators Night will provide information and materials about tours, workshops, and other free resources for area educators. All educators and administrators - from Pre-K to College - welcome and encouraged to attend and explore fun ways to bring art into your classroom and spark creativity in your students.

Mary's Art Explorers

Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn

Thursday, September 22, 2022, 10-11 AM

CAM Members: $3 per child/adult; Non-Members: $6 per child/adult

Children 2 and under: free


It’s the first day of Autumn, let’s celebrate! We will read Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn and talk about the differences between the seasons. We’ll create paintings using fall colors, and unconventional painting and printing materials.


Art Explorers is geared towards infants, toddler and preschoolers, but big brothers and sisters are welcome to join and create art with us. Space is limited so preregister to guarantee your spot!


It is with great honor that Cameron Art Museum pays tribute to Mary Cameron Hoey by naming its most popular and long standing family program after her. Mary’s Art Explorers is a story time, art making, and museum exploration program.

Four Creative Collage Projects

In this class you can collage into your old paintings and drawings, use typography and text for pattern and design, or work with multiple papers for pattern and texture. Tackle a different technique and material each week. Gather your materials and let's go!

Landscape Photography

In this six-day session, we will explore the Ft. Fisher Hermit Boardwalk, the riverscape of Carolina Beach State Park and much more.  We will explore the use of wide and telephoto lenses as well as using our nifty fifty to create the perfect panoramic. This session is open to all skill levels and any digital device, so grab your DSLR, smart phone or tablet & sign up.

A Walking Tour of Wilmington

The Art of Pressed Botanicals

Instructor:

Learn a range of insider tips for a plethora of techniques for pressing flowers and other botanicals successfully.

Enjoy a history of floral preservation and presentations, supply orientation, build your own 12" X 12" flower press, learn to create a variety of compositions, ways to use pressed botanical arrangements, storage tips, incorporating other mediums all while learning some botanical names and history of some of our native North Carolina plants along with an array of blooms and greenery.

Art Buzz: Hammered Copper
